Getting a Library Card
- Go to the Library
To get a Grand Rapids Public Library card, your must live within the city limits of Grand Rapids. You can get a Library card at any of our 8 locations.
- Fill out the library card application
Get an application at the Circulation (check-out) desk.
- Show a picture id
Your picture id should be valid and include your current address. Examples include:
- A drivers license or state id
- A passport
- A military id
- A resident alien card (green card)
- Other government issued ids, see staff for details
- Prove your current address
If your picture id does not have your current address, then please bring one of the following:
- A utility bill received within the last two months
- Business or legal correspondence with a mechanically generated address label
- Printed checks with your current address on them
- Pay check or stub
- Lease agreement
- Any mail with a post office generated change of address sticker
- Library cards are free
If you need to replace a lost library card the fee is $1.00.
- Kids can get Library cards too
To get your child a library card, you, as a parent or legal guardian, will need to fill out a children's application and show identification listed above. There is no age requirement for a child to get a library card, but the child must be present to receive one.
